The shift to USB-C is massive for Apple as it changes its massive hold on the Lightning cable for the iPhones, however, its other devices like the AirPods are still stuck on the old ports and wires. There are reports that alongside the iPhone 15, another Apple device would see a USB-C update, and it would be the AirPods lineup, but reports are skeptical if Apple would immediately follow up on it at the event.

According to a report by 9to5 Mac, the AirPods lineup would finally see an upgrade to USB-C charging ports and cable next month, alongside the iconic update of the iPhone 15 to its wired charging.

Apple had a chance to do this last year when it released the AirPods Pro 2, but it missed the opportunity as it stuck with the Lightning charging port which gave the world the same connections as the past years.

This was also corroborated by renowned Apple analyst, Mark Gurman via his Bloomberg report, saying that the AirPods with USB-C will match the new iPhone 15s coming early this September. The USB-C would give the world a chance to use the universal charging cables for multiple devices, with Apple already featuring a port that accepts the standard.

Which AirPods is Getting USB-C?

For now, it is unknown which AirPods is getting an upgrade to USB-C to go alongside the iPhone 15, with the latest release, the AirPods Pro 2, may be out of the picture as it already saw an update last year.

The money may be on the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Max, both already seeing as much as two years since it was last updated by Apple, with the wireless headphones in need of a much-deserved upgrade.

Apple's AirPods Development

The latest released AirPods in the market is the AirPods Pro 2 which came out in September last year, alongside the iPhone 14 lineup which made massive waves on the industry. However, it was only the iPhone 14 that brought the Dynamic Island, as the AirPods Pro 2 remained with the same design, looks, and specs, with the device still featuring the Lightning port charging.

The earlier year, in October 2021, the world saw an update to the original AirPods lineup which got a refreshed look, chip, specs, and more but being that it is earlier, Lightning cables are still bundled with it. The AirPods Pro 3 was a massive upgrade to the lineup, and it proved to be an iconic release from Apple, considering that it is two years old already, it might be the one to get the update.

Not the same can be said for the 2020-released AirPods Max, the over-the-ear wireless headphones from Apple which has been the same since three years ago.

The three iterations of the AirPods have brought the world iconic sounds and audio from Apple, but changing to USB-C may not change a lot for the device except for its wired charging, something that may be seen soon this September.
