Microsoft OneDrive Photo Fiasco Reversed—Update No Longer Coming Due to Customer Complaints

Customer complaints were able to get to Microsoft, as the company now announced their reversal of the OneDrive Photo changes that caused a significant uproar from concerned users. The supposed changes in OneDrive could add more to the allocated five gigabytes in their use of the cloud, something that could effectively run them out of data and prevent sync.

In the recent changes from Microsoft, this will no longer see its effect on the OneDrive experience, with the setup remaining the same for all.

According to a new support document from Microsoft, OneDrive's supposed to change on its photo albums will no longer apply come October 16, its initial proposed date to effect its changes. This is after massive customer complaints were received by the company for its planned revamp of the cloud-based storage that will account for other data.

This was initially revealed by Microsoft to its OneDrive users via an email, announcing that it reversed its initial decision after hearing the plea of customers. Microsoft initially announced this last August 31, seeing significant uproar from the community.

"Based on the feedback we received, we have adjusted our approach, we will no longer roll out this update," said Microsoft.

Neowin first reported this change from Microsoft's OneDrive photo fiasco which will change the way it counts the data uploaded, something that could effectively eat their allocation in the cloud service.

Initially, OneDrive was set to account for even the saved albums on their devices, with the service counting it separately which could effectively run them out of storage. This, in turn, would prevent additional files from syncing from cloud to device, or vice versa, as it could effectively fill their 5GB allocation for some users.

Recently, Microsoft rolled out the latest changes to OneDrive which will see an upgrade thanks to services like Copilot, the AI assistant for its apps, and more.

The massive focus of Microsoft on its AI developments is seeing significant effects on its systems, and these are positive developments that make their way to its tech. Recently, it was the Windows OS that received the Copilot AI, offering a way to assist users and connecting it to its other tools available via web browsers.

Microsoft has sure established itself in its many services and apps available for the world, including its renowned OneDrive built for personal or business needs. Still, it faced an issue when it tried to change its setup, but the good thing was Microsoft considered the input of its customers, pulling it out in the nick of time.
