The incident occurred during a presentation by a Google Israel executive, where the employee, a Google Cloud engineer, stood up and passionately expressed opposition, disrupting the event with the statement, "I refuse to build technology that powers genocide or surveillance."

During the Mind the Tech annual Israeli tech conference in New York, a notable incident unfolded during a presentation by Barak Regev, the managing director of Google Israel. 

The event took a turn when an engineer voiced opposition to Project Nimbus, a substantial $1.2 billion Israeli government contract involving cloud services provided by Google and Amazon. Shortly after this protest, the employee was escorted out of the presentation venue.

Google encountered resistance regarding its participation in Project Nimbus upon the contract's signing in 2021. A collective of hundreds of employees from Google and Amazon penned an open letter voicing opposition to the agreement. 

They expressed concerns that the technologies associated with the project could lead to increased surveillance and unlawful data collection targeting Palestinians.
