The relationship between arch-nemeses Batman and The Joker has been the subject of many graphic novels, movies, and stories ever since the two first faced off in Batman #1 in the 1940's.

But this almost five minute film by K&K productions shows their love-hate relationship to a whole new level.

The film, directed by Harry and George Kirby, plays on the Joker's insane fascination with the Caped Crusader in an utterly dark and unpredictable way that every true fan of the Joker will be able to appreciate.

The scene opens to the Joker crooning to the Nat King Cole classic When I Fall in Love. But the tone is anything but romantic for the helpless hostages on their knees being held at gunpoint by clown-masked men.

The Joker is the star of this gory short film. The inspiration for the Joker's voice came from Mark Hamil's portrayal of the psychotic villain in Batman The Animated series. Meanwhile, the look for this incarnation of the not-so-funny man was drawn up from Killing Joke (a Batman graphic novel) and Arkham Asylum.

The performance is tied together by actor, Nicholas Anscombe, whom creators said had to sit through hours of makeup to complete his transformation with pointy chin and bloody red perpetual smile.

Just when the Joker is about to bash a crowbar on one of the hostages, Batman swoops in to save the day - exactly what the Joker wanted.

For his portrayal of the Dark Knight, actor Joe Galiina was said to have put on 15 lbs. in order to create the "brutal, menacing Batman" he felt the character demanded.

According to the behind-the-scenes video of the short film, Batman: The Bloody Valentine is the biggest project they had taken on in terms of logistics and scope.

This was clearly no cheap, backyard fan video. The entire production is high quality and it showed that everyone was on the same page to deliver the best psychotic-fueled love story for the Joker's relationship with the Batman.

"That's when I fell in love with you," the Joker sings to Bats before he cuts open the throat of one of his victims.

The entire film is available to view online.
