HD updates are all the rage these days. Games from the last generation of consoles, games from years ago, even games that failed to sell well the first time - as long as the graphics get better and the gameplay stays the same, fans are happy to pay for old content on new hardware.

For Call of Duty, things are a little different: the games come out once a year, so there's really no time for a team to go in and remake the older games. Other franchises see multi-year gaps between releases, but Call of Duty has been an annual gaming event for years now.

Not that it matters to the fans: a Change.org petition calling for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 update has already reached 110,000+ signatures.

The petition's goals are simple: Activision should remaster the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for newer consoles. At 150,000 signatures, a letter will be sent to Activision - at this rate, that'll happen before the day is out.

According to the petition page itself, the current version of Modern Warfare 2 is overrun with hackers (a legitimate possibility, as the game never boasted dedicated servers), and a remaster is the easiest way to fix said problem. While that might not be the case, Modern Warfare 2 is still highly regarded as one of the best games in the entire franchise - if the petition's popularity continues to grow, it might make a lot of business sense for Activision to at least look into re-releasing the game.

That being said, a re-release actually happening isn't set in stone. As previously stated, a new Call of Duty game is released every year - Activision would have to time the release of any Modern Warfare 2 HD so that it wasn't competing with another Call of Duty title.

At the very least, it's easy to see that people want more Modern Warfare 2 - if enough people sign that petition, there's definitely a chance that an HD remaster could happen sometime in the future.
