Motorola fans will soon be able to get a taste of Android 5.1 Lollipop as the Moto X (2nd gen) is poised to get the software update.

On Friday, March 20, Motorola posted the changelog of the soak test on its customer support portal, which suggests that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update's release for the Moto X (2nd gen) is not too far away.

Per the Android 5.1 Lollipop update release notes posted by Motorola, the Moto X (2nd gen) is set to benefit from several improvements and performance enhancements.

"We are excited to announce a new software update for XT1095 by Motorola. This update brings Android 5.1 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements," revealed Motorola.

The changelog reveals that the Moto X (2nd gen) — i.e., the 2014 version — will benefit from camera enhancements, as well as get the Device Protection feature, which Google had indicated would only be available for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 and devices that ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring Moto X users improved low-light camera shots as well as responsiveness of the front-facing camera's viewfinder. The Device Protection feature will ensure that a user's device remains locked if stolen or misplaced until it is signed into with the pertinent Google account.

Android Run Time (ART) also gets improvements, which ensures swifter app launching time. Heads-up notifications can not only be dismissed, but users can swipe the same for its removal. The Notifications feature will allow a user to alter the volume control when a media file is playing. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tiles in Quick Settings will get pull-down menus.

Android 5.1 Lollipop update will also get several bug fixes.

The over-the-air (OTA) software update is expected to make its way to the unlocked variant of the Moto X i.e. the 2014 Moto X Pure Edition first, with carrier devices following suit. It is anticipated that the update will be pushed out in the coming weeks as Motorola usually releases updates following a soak test.
