Performing a fatality in Mortal Kombat is the ultimate declaration of victory. Preforming a fatality is to tell your opponent, "I just kicked your butt, now stand still while I demonstrate my clearly superior knowledge of the game."

Not only do you have to memorize a long string of commands, but then you actually have to input those commands just right in order to pull the fatality off. It isn't easy by any means. However, it makes splitting your opponent in two even more satisfying when you do finally execute it.

So what happens when players can simply purchase "easy" versions of fatalities? One might think it would downplay part of what makes fatalities so great in the first place.

Believe it or not, players can do just that in Mortal Kombat X. Players have the option of buying five "simple" fatalities for .99 cents through the PlayStation or Xbox digital stores. A pack with 30 simple fatalities is also on sale for $4.99. These packs turn a number of the game's fatalities into two button press commands: significantly easier than the usual four or five-button inputs required.

It's important to note that not every fatality can be bought in simplified form, only some of them. Players also earn tokens from playing the game that can then be used to turn a fatality into a two-button command.

Players can also unlock all of the collectibles in the game by forking over $19.99.

Even though the easy fatalities can be acquired in game without paying, the inclusion of the microtransactions is leaving a sour taste in the mouth of some hardcore fans. The difficulty of pulling off the fatality is kind of the point. It shows you have a vast knowledge of the game and the skill to pull of an impressive number of commands. By giving players an easy option, NetherRealm diminishes what it means to "Finish him!"
