Philips has been fairly aggressive in innovating on smart lighting and the fruit of its efforts has finally been unleashed. The company has finally unveiled three new additions to their line of smart lighting products.

Philip's latest forays into smart lighting involve 3D printed lamps, the Hue Lux line of LED bulbs and Hue Tap.

The 3D lamps were created in collaboration with well-known design firms Strand+Hvass and WertelOberfell. The current designs include a table lamp and a pendant lamp created using the latest 3D printing technology.

"3D printing provides more freedom, control and even personalization when designing lighting products. There are fewer boundaries for creativity with Philips hue as there are unlimited options to generate any mood or lighting effect. Combined, we have created the most advanced, digital (even futuristic) technologies for a functional, emotional and unique object," said Jan Wertel, a designer from WertelOberfell.

"The expression of color produced by Philips hue adds an element of surprise that's magical and mysterious, creating a sense of wonder," added Nils Hvass, a designer from Strand+Hvass.

Aside from the 3D smart lighting luminaries, Philips also unveiled the Hue Lux. Unlike other bulbs from the Hue line, the Lux line of LED smart bulbs only comes in white. The bulb can also be controlled wirelessly using any compatible mobile device.

"Hue lux is another entry point for people who are ready for the connected home," said Philips Lighting senior director Filip Jan Depauw. "Hue lux offers personal wireless functional lighting, giving users perfect control over their homes by reinventing the dimmer switch and giving you control via an array of apps."

The Lux line is a very functional and practical option for smart home lighting. Moreover, the bulb is also compatible with other official and third party Hue apps including the disco app, which allows the bulb to pulse along with music playing on a mobile device.

"Hue lux makes your everyday activity even brighter, with the ability to operate up to 50 bulbs with each smart bridge, once you have the kit, your connected lighting experience is completely scalable: you can add any hue-compatible product to any room in your home," Depauw added.

Lastly, Philips also unveiled the "world's first kinetic powered, web-enabled light switch." The Hue Tap is a special switch that can be used to control other Hue products. Due to the kinetically powered mechanism, there is no need for batteries, wires or chargers.

"Hue tap is the perfect solution for users who want to control their personal wireless lighting with yet more convenience," said Depauw. "It is more than just a modern take on the wall switch - it combines easy-to-use traditional lighting control with the smart, intuitive, fun world of hue."
