Brian Michael Bendis is one of the most prolific comic book writers in the business.

Over the years, he's tackled the Avengers, Daredevil, the X-Men, created at least half a dozen original books, tackled a number of major "event" comics and written every single Ultimate Spider-Man comic (more than 200 issues). Now, it looks like he's taking on another major Marvel icon.

As part of this fall's "All-New All-Different Marvel" initiative, all of Marvel's monthly titles will be starting over with new #1 issues. Bendis will be writing the brand new Invincible Iron Man series, with art by David Marquez. Bendis is no stranger to Iron Man, having written the character during his long run on New Avengers and other Avengers-related titles.

This news was just revealed this morning at the Special Edition: NYC mini comic convention. It follows two days of major revelations Marvel has made regarding its All-New All-Different lineup, which includes changes like a new female Wolverine and Fantastic Four's Ben Grimm joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. In both of the character images Marvel released, Iron Man was featured front-and-center, wearing new armor and appearing bigger than all the other characters.

Turns out, this was very intentional. According to Newsarama, Marvel's Tom Brevoort says that the publisher is "repositioning Iron Man to be [its] most prominent character."

That's quite a change-up for Marvel, whose most prominent (and popular) character has been Spider-Man for decades. Pushing Iron Man into a bigger position is further evidence of bringing the comics in line with Marvel Studios' movies, where Robert Downey Jr.'s interpretation of Iron Man has placed the character as the central linchpin of the movie universe.

In the preview image released today alongside this news, Iron Man is sporting sleek new armor that distinguishes itself with tiny eye slits and a straight crease running down the center of his helmet, among other differences.
