HTC is reportedly planning to release a variant of the HTC One M8, the smartphone will officially be called HTC One M8 Ace and match the Galaxy S5 in specs and plastic body.

When HTC announced the original HTC One, the company brought something new to Android. There is now a smartphone that was designed on and used the same quality materials as Apple. The brushed aluminum unibody case was one of the top 5 features and also the reason why most people choose the smartphone over its plastic Android rival, Samsung Galaxy S5.

A new report from Engadget claims that HTC will release a new HTC One M8 Ace that will include a unibody plastic case in place of the anodized aluminum unibody case found on the HTC One M8. The site's sources claim that the specs of the smartphone will be nearly identical to the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The HTC One M8 Ace will reportedly feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, matching the Galaxy S5 in resolution but .1-inches smaller. The smartphone is expected to be powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM. Its camera capabilities are said to include the Rear Duo camera found on the HTC One M8 along with the same front facing dual-stereo speakers. The smartphone will be offered with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128GB microSD cards.

Moving to a unibody plastic case would definitely lower the price of the HTC One M8 Ace when compared to the flagship HTC One M8. This could also be HTC's answer to the Galaxy S5's waterproof ability. It is pure speculation and wishful thinking to throw that out there, but we should know the full details in the near future.

The first image of the HTC One M8 Ace was tweeted by the always-reliable evleaks. The image shows a smartphone that looks identical to the HTC One M8, except for its red plastic case.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on the HTC One M8 Ace as more details become available.
