Bill Nye the Science Guy has spent his career informing the young and old alike on scientific issues ranging from climate change to evolution to the future of spaceflight. But now the media's go-to personality on anything remotely scientific may tackle his hardest subject yet: himself.

Documentary filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg just launched a new Kickstarter campaign for The Bill Nye Film, which they hope becomes "the definitive film on Bill Nye The Science Guy and his quest to change the world with science."

"We wanted to know who is the man behind the bow tie and where is he now," Sussberg said in a video on the page for the Kickstarter campaign. This video also features Nye, so it looks like the Science Guy is lending his full support to this project.

Alvarado and Sussberg are fans of Nye, and the fact that their work has explored issues in science and technology can be attributed to watching VHS tapes of Bill Nye the Science Guy in middle school, the filmmakers wrote on the page for the Kickstarter campaign.

"When we learned that Bill Nye was doing something new, working outside of the classroom to champion science and space exploration and the fight against climate change, we knew we had to make this documentary," the filmmakers wrote.

The project has raised a little more than $6,000 of its $650,000 goal as of the time of this writing. Some incentives for contributing to the campaign include custom emojis, dog bowties and a handwritten limerick from Nye himself.

However, the campaign is giving away a Kickstarter-exclusive scene of a test mission for LightSail-A, a solar-sailing spacecraft with which Nye is involved, from an upcoming film about its launch for free. You can check out the clip below.

If The Bill Nye Film's Kickstarter campaign is a success, it might not be the only place we'll see the Science Guy's work on the big screen in the future. Nye previously revealed that he was working on a movie about a historical figure who taught himself mathematics during his Reddit AMA last November. Back then, the deal was still pending, so Nye couldn't reveal any other details about the project. Still, it's possible that having more Nye on the silver screen could — dare I say it? — change the world.
