Is it a smartphone or a smart watch, or just a little bit of both? Samsung reportedly is to be launching a new product that should capture the public's attention: a smart watch that will allow the user to make calls directly from it without having to be linked to a smartphone. The move aims at continuing to push development and innovation within the watch industry, which the company has already been leading.

In essence, this is not the typical smart watch, rather it is basically a small smartphone for your wrist that will also have the ability to take photos, shoot off an email to someone and will have a heart-rate monitor, Bluetooth and even GPS capacity. This is not the average smart watch.

As Samsung continues to keep its spot at the top of the smartphone sector, heading more directly into the smart watch industry appears to be a solid enterprise for the company, which hopes to dominate the rise of the smart watch.

According to reports, the new smart watch will be running on its Tizen operating system, developed in partnership with Intel and says it is in discussion with telecom companies and carriers across North America, South Korea and Europe.

The new gadget has yet to be named by the Korean company.

While there is the expected awe of the new device, many analysts and observers are questioning whether there really is a ripe market for the selling and making of smart watches. Reports suggest that experts are so convinced.

"There's still the question of why people really need to buy smart watches today," said Lee Seung-woo, an analyst at IBK Securities in Seoul. "Samsung is estimated to be the dominant vendor of wearables, but it will take quite a bit of time for sales to contribute to the company's earnings," he said, adding that the market for smart watches is weaker than smartphones.

For now, at least, Samsung is sitting pretty atop the technology world, as it continues to deliver top end products that appeal to the general population. It has led them to the summit of the smartphone world, knocking Apple off its years at the perch. With new smart watches on the horizon, Samsung is looking to continue to outpace its competitors.
