The Death Star gets all of the Star Wars headlines, but it's the Star Destroyer that's the real war machine of the Empire.

These enormous workhorses carry TIE Fighters, AT-AT walkers and other vehicles through space and to the surface of worlds throughout the galaxy. The Star Destroyer is synonymous with Star Wars, its familiar wedge shape remembered as the very first object ever seen on screen in a Star Wars movie. Who can forget that opening moment from A New Hope when the giant ship flew right above the camera until it filled the entire frame? Nothing like it had ever been seen before.

Players of Grand Theft Auto V have been hard at work lately, modding the game to include all sorts of things. But the latest mod brings a healthy dose of Star Wars to Los Santos, in the form of a Star Destroyer that hovers ominously over the city.

The mod was created by user "JJxOracle," the same guy that made the Mass Effect Reaper mod for GTA V. Like the Reaper, the Star Destroyer floats above the city, slowly cruising around just like the blimp it replaces.

The ship could use some better textures; as the moment, it looks like a less-pixelated Minecraft Star Destroyer. It's also not presented at the correct scale, which JJxOracle is aware of and says he hopes to fix at some point if the game's engine will allow it.

As cool as it is, the GTA V Star Destroyer doesn't do much of anything. No blasters shooting, no launching of TIE Fighters, and so on. But there are some nice sound effects and the engines in back light up to simulate rocket thrust (though this feature's a bit glitchy).

And as eye candy goes, you could do a lot worse.

See it in action in this video.
