There is a sense of pride a music fan feels when the up-and-coming artist they have been listening to since their early days in the biz makes their big break. Now, Spotify users can brag to their friends that they knew about all about the latest rising artist's music first thanks to a new discovery tool.

Spotify has launched a new tool called "Found Them First," which lets its users know how many breakout artists they streamed before they were popular.

To use the tool, the user must log into their Spotify account to find out how many artists they streamed before they made it big. Spotify then scans the individual user's streaming history to find how many artists they were listening to before everyone else was.

The music streaming platform defines a breakout artists as a musician that has 20 million streams, with a growth rate of 2,000 percent between January 2013 and June 2015. We are not sure what artists are featured on the list, but Staten Island, New Yorker Bebe Rexha (known for writing Eminem and Rihanna's "The Monster" and her vocals in "Take Me Home" by Cash Cash) and British singer and songwriter FKA Twigs are among the artists featured in the promo images.

The new app tool shows the user only the songs they streamed where they were early listeners, which means the user would have to fall in the top one to 15 percent of listeners for that specific track. To make sure that users just didn't stumble on the track by accident, they would have to have streamed music by that artist at least five times in a month to be considered an "early listener."

While Spotify is one of the few music streaming services this music lover uses, since it's not my go-to for new music, I was told that I haven't discovered any breakout artists yet. This outcome isn't surprising, but was I pleased to find that I could hop on the badwagon to start to discover new music on this platform.

Users are then directed to get a playlist that includes "fresh artists" recommended by Spotify to further expand their music horizons.

This new tool is just one fun way users can explore new music. Spotify previously rolled out a new weekly personalized playlists in July targeted to help its users discover new songs.

The Discover Weekly playlists are updated every Monday morning and feature two hours of music that are customized to fit each specific user. In addition, the playlists combine what fans with similar musical tastes are currently playing.
