Foursquare announced that it has just teamed up with Alley Cat Rescue (ACR) in a move to launch a donation campaign with the aim of saving stray cats.

According to Foursquare, the campaign is scheduled to run for the next two weeks. Users can join in the campaign by simply checking in to a location through their Swarm app.

In addition to Alley Cat Rescue, Foursquare also teamed up with Grumpy Cat and offered users the chance to unlock the Grumpy Cat sticker which now comes as a limited edition.

"To help us save as many kittens as possible, we've partnered with everyone's favorite cat celebrity, Grumpy Cat," said Foursquare. "Turn that frown upside down by unlocking our limited edition Grumpy Cat sticker. Show off your support and spread the word by sharing your check-ins to Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #EveryCheckInSavesAKitten."

ACR is formed out of a mission to help solve the nation's crisis and tragedy of having a large number of unwanted and abandoned cats. Based on 2014 records, the U.S. has around 58 million stray cats. Otherwise known as feral cats, they are usually described as pests because of their habits of staying at public places in high numbers and also because of their fighting and spraying behaviors. Many people would rather have these cats either trapped or removed from their public habitats.

Some of the solutions offered to help solve the stray cat problem are: discouraging the public to feed the stray cats; reminding cat owners not to abandon their pet cats; and advising cat owners to have their cats spayed or neutered.

Hopefully, Foursquare's current users which now reach 60 million will be able to pitch in and help in making the campaign a successful venture. Recently, the company heightened its partnership with OpenTable by making it possible for users to search for a restaurant and view table availability directly within Foursquare, eliminating the need to switch between the two apps, thus making the process much faster and more efficient.

In the meantime, Swarm is built around the idea of allowing users to "earn prizes and compete with friends based on the places you go. See when your friends are hanging out nearby, so you never miss out on the fun!"

Foursquare said that its donation campaign will run until October 15. Every time a user checks in at a location using its Swarm app, Foursquare will be able to send donation to Alley Cat.
