Companies are known for leaking information about their products in order to generate interest. But there are also cases when a third party accidentally releases data as was the case of the Federal Communications Commission, which outed the Vivo XL2 before Blu — its maker — is able to properly launch the handset.

The device has visited the agency for its cellular RF tests and other regulatory evaluations.

Fans of the brand will most assuredly have a field day because the FCC's leak includes specific hardware details, a captured image of the actual device, and even the smartphone's manual.

Meet The Vivo XL2

Right off the bat, one will notice that the Vivo XL2 will be sporting a rather bland design. It is dominated by a very glossy white plastic construction while its rear panel resembles the design language ditched by Asus for its latest Zenfone range.

There is, however, a curious chrome band that lines its side, giving the device an edgier look and some hint of style even. Hopefully, this will be made of metal and not another plastic material.

The front panel appears to be more interesting because of the large display. The screen-to-body ratio evokes the same philosophy adopted by LG's recent flagships thanks to its thin bezel.

The screen measures 5.5-inches, qualifying the Vivo XL2 as a phablet. To complement the area coverage of that real estate, it will ship with a 3,150 mAh battery.

At this point, the handset's display resolution is not yet known but the battery capacity should provide sufficient juice to power a 1,280 x 720 resolution display, outfitted in the Blu Vivo XL, the Vivo XL2's predecessor.

Specs, Pricing And Availability

The accompanying user manual published by the FCC has provided us with more information about the technology under the Vivo XL2's hood. For example, it will be rocking a still-unidentified MediaTek processor, expandable storage, camera flash, front and rear-facing cameras, and capacitive buttons.

Unfortunately, the handset will not ship with fingerprint sensor. There is just no module both on the front and back panels that indicates otherwise.

Of course, without any formal announcement, we also do not have any idea about the Vivo XL2's pricing or when it will hit the store shelves. It is helpful to remember that the Vivo XL was announced in January this year, which means that the XL2 will likely debut in the next few days, possibly at CES on Jan. 5 to 8.

Consumers should expect that the XL2 will cost roughly the same as its older sibling. The Blu Vivo XL currently retails for around $150 at Amazon.
