A new announcement from Samsung, which emerged out of its newsroom that it is touting a new laundry system, contains a curious statement. Alongside a promise to provide consumers more choices when doing their laundry, the company states that such options are available the way consumers want them "in all types of situations."

That is quite a sweeping declaration, a tall order for a washing machine or a laundry drier no matter how versatile or smart they claim to be.

Versatile System

The home technology in question is called FlexWash + FlexDry laundry system, and it will debut at CES 2017. It is clear that Samsung is quite enthusiastic about this product with the way it underscores how the system bears all core Samsung laundry technologies. It purportedly ensures the provision of the most advanced solution that will satisfy the needs of every busy modern family out there.

Samsung proceeded on explaining that the FlexWash is the largest machine of its class and is composed of two loaders, which is similar to a system used by LG's own smart home appliance called Twin Wash. The front module has a five-cubic-feet capacity while the smaller top loader can wash a lighter load. Each can be operated on its own or simultaneously.

Compartmentalized Drying

FlexDry operates in roughly the same philosophy. Instead of the loader, however, it is divided in several compartments. For example, more delicate clothing such as underwear can be dried in a special, well, Delicate Rack zone. The heat can be controlled, ranging from room temperature up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The adjustment is purportedly automatic.

The main compartment enjoys the same temperature modification feature but with the addition of the MultiSteam feature. Aside from drying clothes, the technology will be able to freshen and disinfect laundry while it reduces wrinkles.

Different Ways Of Caring

"Everyone has different clothes and different ways of caring for them," Seo Byung-Sam, President of Home Appliances at Samsung Electronics, said. "Finally, FlexWash + FlexDry is a laundry system that fits any need, all at once. We are striving to give consumers the freedom and flexibility to adjust the laundry process for the way they live, not the other way around."

So, to recap, the new Samsung washing machine can wash normal and big loads. It can dry delicate and non-delicate clothing. However, with a few extra features such as the ability to disinfect, iron the laundry, and control the temperature automatically, it is still quite difficult to determine the "all situations" claim.

For example, in a situation where the user loses power, water, or detergent, will the washing machine still perform its task successfully? Samsung could probably address this concern when it unveils the FlexWash + FlexDry system at CES. By then we should be able to determine if it will also be one of the company's best products.
