Preorders for the Xbox One X, specifically for the limited day-one version named the Project Scorpio Edition, are now online, with stocks running out quickly.

Gamers who would like to get their hands on the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition will need to send in their preorders as soon as they can, as the console is already sold out in some major retailers.

Xbox One X Preorders Now Open

At its press conference for Gamescom 2017, Microsoft announced the launch of Xbox One X preorders alongside the official unveiling of the previously leaked Project Scorpio Edition. Project Scorpio, for those who haven't been following all the news about the Xbox One X, is the codename that Microsoft used for what it describes as "the world's most powerful console."

As revealed in the leak, the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition will have a black and graphite textured case, with "Project Scorpio" labels on the controller and console. The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition mirrors what Microsoft did for the Xbox One Day One Edition, which came with "Day One 2013" embossed on its controller.

Albert Penello, Xbox senior director of product management and planning, clarified through a tweet that the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is the only version of the console that is currently up for preorder. Despite it being a special version of the Xbox One X, the Project Scorpio Edition is being sold at $499, the same price of the regular version of the console.

Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Preorders Already Selling Out

Microsoft's launch of preorders for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition has generated massive interest, with stocks of the console already sold out at Amazon, Gamestop, and the Microsoft Store. As of the time of writing, stocks are still available through Target and Walmart, but these retailers will likely run out soon. Hardcore Xbox fans who are looking to get their hands on the limited edition console should send in their preorders as soon as they can.

Will The Xbox One X Sell Well?

The already sold out preorders is a good sign for Microsoft, as there were predictions that Xbox One X sales will not do so well given its price.

The list of exclusive games for the Xbox One X has also been one of the major criticisms against the console, a problem that was amplified with Crackdown 3 delayed into 2018.

It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will be able to close the gap with Sony and the PlayStation 4 through the Xbox One X, but the console is already off to a blazing start.
