PUBG Corp. has unveiled the PUBG Global Invitational 2018, the first major tournament for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds that will take place in Berlin, Germany.

PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, recently said that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds support will last over 20 years. The success of the upcoming tournament will show if the game has the staying power to become a fixture in the eSports scene to help it last that long.

'PUBG' Global Invitational 2018 Will Happen In July

PUBG Corp. announced the PUBG Global Invitational 2018 through a post on the multiplayer shooter's Steam page, where the developer said that the tournament will run from July 25 to July 29.

The first major eSports tournament for PUBG that will be hosted by PUBG Corp. will pit 20 teams from around the world against one another. The teams that will participate will be selected through regional qualification tournaments that will be held in North America, Europe, and Asia around the start of July.

In PUBG Global Invitational 2018, teams will be made up of four players, with the traditional Battle Royale goal of being the team with the last man standing. There will be one team each from South America, Oceania, and the Middle East/North Africa; two teams each from CIS, Korea, China, and Japan; and three teams each from North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia.

Third-person perspective matches will be held on July 25 and July 26, while first-person perspective matches will be held on July 28 and July 29. A champion will be crowned for each mode, showcasing the difference in the gameplay for each perspective.

The prize pool of the PUBG Global Invitational 2018 will be a whopping $2 million, so teams will be expected to bring their best games to the tournament.

The PUBG Global Invitational 2018 is actually not the first eSports tournament for PUBG, as the Gamescom PUBG Invitational was held last year. However, that tournament only offered a prize pool of $350,000.

'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' Updates

PUBG Corp. may be planning the PUBG Global Invitational 2018, but it is also working on PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds updates at the same time.

A recently added PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds feature allows players to select the map where they want to play, whether that be in Erangel, Miramar, or Savage. Meanwhile, earlier in the month, PUBG Corp. also rolled out the game's Patch 10.

With everything that is happening, a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PlayStation 4 version might not happen anytime soon. However, the launch of the Battle Royale game to the console will be good for it, whenever that happens.
