The OnePlus 7 Pro is a fantastic flagship that, while much more expensive than OnePlus' usually budget-friendly slate, is cheaper than Samsung's or Apple's offerings. Even better, it comes brimmed with top-tier specs topped with a decently reliable software in the form of OxygenOS.

However, some users have begun reporting issues with the phone. Early buyers say that they've been noticing phantom touches — that is, random screen presses that occur even if they're not touching the screen at all. Some apps open, respond, and pop up as if the screen had been tapped even when the phone is untouched.

OnePlus Is Aware

Fortunately, OnePlus is aware of such issues, as Android Police reports, and that it's treating them as a high-priority matter after managing to reproduce the problem. The company is also encouraging those experiencing the problem to report it via the OnePlus Community app of the feedback section of the forum. With more logs, says OnePlus, the company can better determine the source of the issue.

Hopefully this is simply a software issue. Such problems can easily be fixed via a software updates. Hardware problems, on the other hand, are much harder to solve. Obviously, the exploding Galaxy Note 7 fiasco from a couple of years past wasn't fixed by a simple software update. Samsung had to recall units since hardware problems are permanent and cannot be fixed remotely. It's not clear how widespread OnePlus 7 Pro's phantom touch issues are, but the reports are mixed, with some saying they're not experiencing the issues at all.

OnePlus Pro 7 Screen Technology

To note, the OnePlus 7 Pro boasts an OLED display that's capable of a 90 Hz refresh rate, the first of such a display in existence, at least on mobile. As such, high refresh rate OLED displays are largely untested, although again, it's still not clear whether the issues stem from faulty software or a deeper, underlying problem with hardware. Hopefully, it's the former.

It's at least reassuring that the problem doesn't appear to be universally affecting all OnePlus 7 Pro units. However, make sure to check back with Tech Times as we learn more. Expect updates as OnePlus shares more details regarding a possible fix.
