Lightyear One has completed its 710km journey on a single charge with matching style to boot. Proudly Dutch-made, the solar electric vehicle completed its longest distance traveled back in June.

Lightyear One was able to travel at an impressive speed of 85km/h for almost nine hours and covered a distance of 710km.

Lightyear One Test Run Better Than Tesla Model 3

The company Lightyear said that "this distance is the longest range an electric vehicle has ever achieved on 60kWh of energy."

Its competitor in terms of electric vehicles is, of course, Tesla. Tesla Model 3 2021 edition only travels 455km on a larger 70kWh battery capacity.

Lightyear also said that "even the most efficient of electric cars on the market today consume around 50% more energy at this relatively low speed." The company's goal is to create a lower energy consumption per kilometer to provide a lot more range given smaller battery sizes.

Lightyear One is meant to be a long-distance cruiser with four independent in-wheel electric motors. The EV is able to consume 83Wh/k and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in less than 10 seconds if needed.

Lightyear One Features

Besides its ability to create its own power from using electricity through charging stations and endless charging capabilities with the use of the five solar panels attached to the car.

The EV itself seems to have more up in its sleeve, or hood based on their website.

  • Seating for 5 adults(2 in front, 3 at back)
  • Companion app
  • Wireless key
  • Android Auto
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Auto software updates

All of those features come standard with every Lightyear One, and more.

Electric And Solar Power

The ingenious idea of adding solar panels benefited the company greatly. As the five solar panels were able to add 12 kilometers of range per hour of charging, give or take.

In ideal sunny weather conditions, a driver could travel for months at a time without needing to charge their vehicle at any charging station.

The Lightyear One would be an ideal EV with countries with a much warmer and sunny climate based on the power generated from the solar panels that the EV also uses on top of its electric engine. The solar roof is protected with a safety glass that holds up to the auto industry regulation.

The Lightyear One will be available to the public during the first half of 2022 and will cost almost $177,000 upon its release based on the details provided by TNW.

Lightyear's History

The company was first founded in 2016, and its mission is to provide a clean mobility experience for everyone, everywhere.

Lightyear One is the very first of its kind and has been able to surpass even the most popular EV vehicles to date.

The Lightyear One is said to be able to offer a clean and convenient mode of a transportation option that doesn't constrain the user from charging or fuel infrastructures.
