Subaru's WRX STI platform retires itself from creating its gas-powered Boxer configuration engine for the current lineup of the Japanese car company. The STI is famous for being the performance rally-bred variant of the WRX, previously referred to as the Impreza, before becoming a household name for a family sedan and focusing on its all-wheel drive.

Subaru announced that it is officially retiring the gas engines of the WRX STI variant on its releases, focusing on the new WRX from the company. It means that Subaru will still release the WRX's 2022 gas-powered vehicle, but the company will no longer develop a WRX STI vehicle with the Boxer engine.

The previous WRX STI brought a 2.5-liter engine that fits a turbo for its flat 4-cylinder Boxer engine, which powers its all-wheel-drive glory for the rally track. Subaru said that it is ending the STI line in terms of its gas requirements, but the company did not specifically say that it is killing off the famous trim of the vehicle.

Subaru STI: To Soon Feature Electrification?

The famous Japanese company brought the world with the Impreza with the early days of rally racing that included the Japanese imports. The Imp slowly transitioned to the WRX, which also brought the STI as a variant for the vehicle, with each hierarchy improving.

In the 2015 release, Impreza moved away from the WRX and STI, and now, the STI is bidding farewell to the WRX vehicle. Nevertheless, Subaru implied that the STI might be focusing on electrification as a new breed of rally vehicles with clean energy.

Subaru and the EV World Now

Subaru did not close itself to electrification when it first showed that transitioning to clean energy transportation is the future that people will need to observe. The company already had different takes on electric mobility, one of which is the Solterra EV that focuses on an electric SUV for the family, taking on the pride and heritage of the company.

The company also focuses on its self-driving ventures for its vehicles, and it is renowned for its take on a system that will look at the roads for the driver's use. The specific feature is known as the "EyeSight," and it mounts itself at the base of the rear-view mirror with its cameras looking at the roads to work as sensors for the vehicle.

Subaru is a famous car company in the United States. Still, its current slate on its electrification is not yet that prominent in the country, as it did not release its Solterra take on the vehicle. Now, another massive change is happening with the company, and that is the end of an era for its STI or Subaru Tecnica International, once Japan's rally-bred top competitor.
