Nintendo had an unprecedented past week that saw the Wii and DSi eShop have a system down, and it brought massive questions from gamers and users regarding the service. The systems down focus on internet unavailability and issues also mean that the network of the company has problems connecting the users to it.

The incident launched questioning from gamers, with them asking if Nintendo is canceling support for the old consoles.

Gamers saw a massive feature getting removed from their Wii and DSi consoles, GameXplain showcased a video that explained what is happening on the Nintendo Store now. Error Code: 209600 - 209614 is what users see for the Nintendo Wii's eShop and Error Code: 290502 are what gamers from the DSi and DSi XL reported in the past four days.

The incident may seem like something that Nintendo intends to do for the old consoles of the Wii and DSi, but its previous announcement of its end of service dictates it to be until late March 2023. However, gamers should still have a leeway of up to one year for this, especially as they need to redeem codes and save all their progress for this upcoming event.

Nintendo Canceling Support for Wii and DSi?

It may seem that Nintendo is already canceling its support for the Wii and DSi, but it may not be the case at all. For now, there is no announcement from Nintendo regarding the cancelation of support from the Japanese company, but it might be an indication that it prepares for the inevitable happening.

The console and its games will continue with its use, but the eShop will no longer continue to provide an online service for the gamers.

Nintendo's Focus on the Switch

The Nintendo Switch is a fairly old console from the Japanese entertainment company as well, recently celebrating its fifth birthday last March 2022, with its first release taking place last 2017. However, it is the console that Nintendo focuses on now, giving it the different updates and the new games coming to it, focusing on many developers for it.

There are no "Nintendo Switch 2" as of the moment and last 2021 only brought the Switch OLED for the public to have a new console that focuses on a better display. The new OLED Switch is not necessarily a successor to the hybrid console, rather Nintendo's take on bringing an updated version of it that focuses on delivering better looks for its games and interface.

Nintendo did not announce any end of support for the Wii and DSi consoles, but its network availability started anxieties for gamers regarding the cancelation of its development. For now, the only news regarding this is the eShops of both the Wii and DSi consoles are discontinuing in late March 2023, with limited features in May and August this year.
