ByteDance's acquisition of the VR startup Pico has opened new things for the TikTok owner.
This time, it's not limited anymore to the video-sharing platform since its subsidiary has revealed the latest virtual reality wearable that will be closely competing with Meta Quest 2 in the next few months.
The upcoming virtual-reality headset will be available next month in select countries in Asia and Europe but not in the US.
Where Will Pico 4 VR Headset Become Available?

Pico's newest VR headset is believed to be more compact than Meta's VR wearable.
Based on its features spotted by Engadget on Thursday, Sept. 22, Pico 4 VR headset could be the next rival of Meta Quest 2 when it comes to mixed-reality wearables.
Initially, it will be released in October in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, South Korea, and Japan, to name a few. ByteDance has not yet announced if it will launch the product in the US market.
However, Pico has prior plans to introduce this VR headset to Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Singapore, in late 2022. It also desires to ship it to China at an unspecified date.
Can Pico 4 Beat Quest 2?
For so many years, Pico has been consistent in producing high-quality VR headsets. This year, it successfully launched the Pico Neo 3 Link, which is capable of connecting to a gaming PC.
According to Pocket-lint, the Pico 4 also shares the same feature of tethering itself to a computer to achieve "higher-end VR experiences."
If you want to take full advantage of this VR headset, you can set up a pair of screens catering to 4K resolution and above. Interestingly, Pico's upcoming VR wearable sports a 105-degree field of view along with a 90Hz refresh rate.
When it comes to its chip, the Pico 4 comes with an improved Snapdragon XR2 processor. The lightweight design of this wearable is undeniably impressive, and it's all because of the "pancake optics."
The 2GB RAM of Meta Quest 2 might be enough already for the VR headset, yet Pico wants to exceed it by introducing an 8GB RAM for the upcoming model.
Additionally, Pico claims that its product can last longer than Quest 2. Its 5300 mAh battery can run for 2.5 to 3 hours, while Meta's headset can operate for 2 to 3 hours.

How Much Will Pico 4 Cost?
Per Road to VR, the starting price for the latest Pico VR headset is around €429 ($422) for the 128GB storage model. If you want to capture more meaningful things at once, you can opt for a more expensive version (256GB model) for €500 or $491.
The pre-orders for the said product will start next month. The shipments will kick off on Oct. 18.
ByteDance's subsidiary will also release three accessories for Pico 4 next year. The package will include a carrying case, a fitness tracker, and a wireless dongle. Each of them will cost €50 ($49).
Last July, Meta reportedly increased the pricing of its VR headset without adding new features. If the company wants to keep up with Pico, it should introduce a new batch of updates for Quest 2.
