Reports are now swirling into Microsoft's plans for an Xbox Game Store coming soon, saying that its Activision Blizzard deal was a key acquisition to securing the platform that it will offer in the future. It will be similar to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store where users can download apps and manage their purchases, centering on Microsoft's shift to offering it on mobile devices.

The company has massive plans towards this claims the reports, and it will be to deliver Activision and King games for mobile.

UK's Competition and Markets Authority first received the filings for Microsoft's plans towards a game store for mobile, as detailed in its acquisition of Activision Blizzard earlier this year. The company detailed that this store will feature the games from Activision Blizzard, as well as King to deliver a new mobile experience.

However, Microsoft did not expand much on its plans for the mobile gaming world, with reports from 9to5 Mac regarding this venture, mainly capitalizing on the acquisition.

Microsoft has been quiet about its plans for a new mobile experience for the public, mainly focusing on what it will soon offer as part of the Xbox family.

Like Google Play Store, or Apple App Store?

According to the filings, Microsoft's key focus on the store is with its Activision Blizzard acquisition who is best known for publishing "Call of Duty: Mobile," and King's "Candy Crush Saga" for smartphones. The company said that these titles, along with upcoming ones, will be enough reason for gamers to choose the alternate service.

However, these games are best known for their availability via the Apple App Store and Google Play, and it may mean that once the Xbox Game Store is running, it would pull out on these platforms. Nevertheless, it faces massive competition from Apple and Google services.

Microsoft and its Mobile Development

Microsoft's Xbox Game Store for mobile was unveiled to the world from reports, and it centers on the company's plans to deliver the smartphone gaming experience, better for users. It is a new venture for Microsoft now, especially as it long left the mobile world for Google and Apple after it stopped creating the Surface smartphones.

The company previously canceled its Windows smartphone development in 2017, especially after it ran short of its performance against the Android and iOS giants who run the show. The company then advised the public to turn to Android for their smartphones, hereby shutting down its Windows mobile OS development.

Microsoft stayed out of the mobile industry for a long time until it released the foldable Surface Duo that uses Android to run its systems.

Still, the company is looking to penetrate the mobile platform again with its alleged work-in-progress, the Xbox Game Store for modern smartphones. And while it will only offer games from its acquired companies and subsidiaries, the question remains in how it will fare against the Play Store and App Store from known Big Tech companies.
