Steam for Chrome OS is Now in Beta—Users May Test the Games Platform on More Chromebooks

Chromebook users are in for a treat, especially with the official arrival of the Steam for Chrome OS beta for people to test and install on their computers for gaming. It is the first time that a dedicated third-party client arrives on the ChromeOS and Chromebooks, apart from cloud gaming platforms available for users to access via the web.

The Chrome OS would soon be available to run Steam, available for all outside the beta, but it would still have to depend on games to support the Google computer.

Steam for Chrome OS was previously released as an alpha testing software in March but already sees its beta testing phase for all to access and experience on their Chromebooks. It allows the famous game client from Valve to run on Chromebooks for people to access their gaming needs, centering on the experience to deliver on the Google OS.

According to Chromium's release, the latest Chrome OS 108.0.5359.24 will include the arrival of the Steam client for its users to access.

Additionally, Google wants feedback regarding the new Steam client on its software, also taking notes of what needs improvement from user feedback on the experience.

Chromebook Gaming Coming Soon

According to Google, those wanting to run Steam and its games need to have Intel's Core i3 or AMD's Ryzen 3 or higher CPUs to help with its processes, and at least 8GB of RAM on their computers. Soon, Chromebook gaming will be a possibility for all to enjoy, especially with the upcoming integration of Steam to come for ChromeOS in the near future.

Chrome OS and Chromebooks

Chromebooks and the Chrome OS are Google's take on delivering the company's operating system for the world to experience, and it centers on the Mountain View giant's focus on PCs. There are several Chromebooks that Google made in partnership with laptop manufacturers including Acer, Lenovo, Samsung, and more.

And while it does not belong in the trinity of most used operating systems in the world with Microsoft's Windows, Linux, and Apple's macOS, it still presents a reliable take for all computer needs.

Google delivered the Chrome OS Flex for all, and it centers on turning different devices into a Chromebook and it would work with both Windows-powered devices, as well as MacBooks. The company aims to make it available for all, without a price as well, centering on sharing the Google experience for PCs.

Steam is one of the most used applications in the world, especially for gamers who want to access games via its famed client that delivers the titles straight to their devices. Nevertheless, Steam's integration for the Chrome OS is a massive help to put a spotlight on Chromebooks, especially as it now transitions from a work PC to a lifestyle.
