X, formerly Twitter, Becomes First One-Letter App on Apple App Store—Was It Given Special Privileges?

Typing a letter on the Apple App Store would give users a broad result, but typing the letter "x" would now lead them to find the new "X" app that is formerly known as Twitter. Apart from this massive change is also the first time in the Apple App Store's history that it allowed a one-letter app to be listed as is, with X recently updating its logo and name to everyone that has it installed.

Twitter is finally retired, with X being the name, logo, and persona of the app, following the original plans of Elon Musk's dream to build the Everything app.

X is Now Its Name in the App Store, Retiring Twitter

It may seem strange that the former Twitter app is already called "X" and appeared on your iPhones with the X logo it flaunted throughout the weeks. However, this is the latest change that is now applied on Twitter, with the former name and logo already retiring to give way to its billionaire owner's aspirations for the social media platform.

X is now officially the Twitter platform, and it was recently changed on the Apple App Store after several days of not getting approval from the company. Initially, it was still named Twitter but already using the new platform logo and tagline "Blaze your glory!" pertaining to the new experience.

Now, users may simply type "X" on the App Store which would lead them to the revamped social media, along with other apps that start with the letter x.

Apple App Store Gave X Special Privileges?

It was previously discussed by Nick Sheriff that Apple has an App Store policy where it has a minimum two-letter name for an app, and before, this is what hindered Twitter from changing into X.

Despite Twitter's struggle over the past few days, it finally achieved its goals of rebranding into X but remains unknown if Apple updated its policies regarding the app names or gave X special consideration or privilege in doing so.

X and its Massive Changes on Twitter

The past few weeks were a roller coaster for the public and Big Tech, especially with the emergence of Meta's Threads, X's most significant competitor now, first taking the limelight. It is currently on limited access for now, with select countries only available for it, and the Europe region is still starved of its use, despite using VPNs.

Initially, Twitter faded into the limelight during these times, also seeing its stats lowered because of Threads' emergence. However, it was not for long, as a whimsical change took place when Musk accepted a design suggestion from a Twitter user for the X rebrand, with it immediately being applied and replaced the iconic Larry the Bird.

After changing a lot for Twitter which is now X, including its loading screen logo, the social media's official name, its display picture, and more, it was not until now that the change is truly felt. This was because Twitter officially retired its name and logo in the App Store, now the X app which remains unknown if it received special privileges from Apple for its single-letter name.
