The renowned series from Konami is not only heading to current-gen consoles but also the PlayStation 4, as recently confirmed by the Japanese gaming company amidst its recent event. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was previously announced for latest-gen consoles only, but this recent revelation from Konami puts the PS4 back on the map for the anticipated re-release.

As per Konami's recent post on X (previously Twitter), the company confirmed the arrival of the anticipated re-release and remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy to the PlayStation 4. The company previously announced that this collection would only drop for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch, Windows, and Steam.

Konami did not reveal any details or reasons regarding its change of heart, but this comes as a treat for gamers, particularly to those who have no plans yet on upgrading to the PS5.

That being said, it is unknown when the PS4 version would release if it would join the timeline of the other latest-gen consoles or see a later release date like what Avalanche Software and WB Games did for Hogwarts Legacy.

Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is coming this October 24 for the platforms except the PS4 as it still displays TBD (to be discussed) on its release date. Konami already holds pre-order for the games, a collection that features seven games in total, stemming from its pixel-retro original games, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

It will also add the Metal Gear NES edition and Snake's Revenge. Also, it ties in the three original games which are already in 3D, the series that is followed until now, including the titles Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Lastly, it will also include videos, digital books, and the digital soundtrack of Metal Gear.

The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

It has been a long time since Konami brought the world the Metal Gear Solid experience on modern gaming consoles, with the last title from the company centering on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

It was revealed two years ago that there is an upcoming remake of the original Metal Gear Solid from 1998 to arrive on the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch, something that fans held onto for a long time.

This 2023, this is a reality for hardcore fans of Konami's famed stealth action video game which brought a significant franchise throughout the years.

Last year, Konami celebrated its 35th anniversary with the world and confirmed that legacy games are coming back for all to experience in the modern gaming consoles available.

With all that has been said, Konami confirmed earlier this year that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collections Vol. 1 is coming for all, and this comes with the first trilogy of the franchise. Despite initially announcing its arrival to the latest-gen gaming consoles, Konami is giving gamers of the PS4 a treat, especially those who have no plans yet in upgrading, to re-experience the original games soon.
