Instagram has seen long-standing requests from the general public to bring Threads its DM (Direct Messages) feature, and that is something under development by the company.

The Instagram CEO also regarded that the ability to do this will no longer require app switching, something that users experienced before, with users required to go to the Instagram app for communications.

In a recent reply by Adam Mosseri on Threads to a post regarding its DMs, the CEO clarified that the company is already working on integrating the said feature into the app. Moreover, Mosseri said that this was already launched on Threads, but it may be something that is still under testing and not yet available for all, with the company presently working to make it easier.

Threads DM is facing massive work from Instagram's team to deliver its many capabilities, and this includes the receiving experience for its messaging, as well as "a more comprehensive set of messaging controls."

Mosseri also claimed that there is a dilemma present in Threads DM, considering that it is part of the Instagram app, with the issue of having "redundant message threads" and notification routing.

Adam Mosseri: No More App Switching for Threads

The main goal of Meta's app is to bring Instagram Inbox to work for Threads, but if this is not possible, there are two choices that the company has to deliver the communication features of the text-based app. First off, there would be a "mirror" for the Instagram Inbox to appear on Threads, with the company featuring a workaround on its notifications.

On the other hand, a new and separate Threads inbox may give redundant messages.

Instagram Inbox, Threads, and the Service

The Instagram Inbox allows people to communicate with their connections including friends, followers, family members, customers, and more, with a massive update appearing last week. As announced by Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram's Mosseri, the feature centering on disabling read receipts that is currently under testing, soon allow users to choose if they will let others see it or not.

On the other hand, its sister app, Threads, is seeing a massive development for what it has to offer from Meta, with the platform getting new features as well, expanding what it has to offer. According to Zuck, Threads is getting an edit button for posts, and unlike its counterpart and rival, X, it will be a free feature that will not be part of Meta's subscription.

The rise of Threads is massive in today's age, and the company has been adding new features for the past weeks now, offering new experiences for users to enjoy. A much-requested feature of direct messaging may soon arrive on Threads, one that will no longer require app switching between it and Instagram, but there is still a lot of work for the two apps before it arrives.
