More and more automotive companies are bending to the universal charging port for EVs, with Volkswagen recently announcing that it is adopting the Tesla NACS for its clean energy cars. This centers on the Volkswagen Group's brands that feature EVs, including the namesake brand, Volkswagen, alongside Porsche, Audi, and Scout Motors in its recent confirmation.
Apart from getting access to Tesla NACS ports, Volkswagen is also given the chance to access the massive Supercharger network in the country.
Volkswagen to Use Tesla NACS for VW, Porsche, Audi

In the latest announcement by Volkswagen Group of America, the company confirmed that it is adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles moving forward. Currently, its cars use the Combined Charging System (CCS) for replenishing the EV, but the company said that it is currently looking for solutions to allow older EVs to connect to the NACS.
Volkswagen also said that its 3,800 DC Fast Chargers under Electrify America and Electrify Canada will also add to the choices for car owners, with the renowned brand also adopting NACS earlier this year.
The Volkswagen Group's adoption will be featured for the brands under it, including VW, Porsche, Audi, and Scout Motors.
Supercharger Access Coming for Volkswagen Group
Apart from the NACS adoption, Volkswagen also gets access to Tesla Superchargers across the country, with a massive number of locations available, already at 15,000 and counting.
This will apply to Volkswagen's operations in North America, as part of the company's further availability in the US market starting 2025. Moreover, VW said that Electrify America will continue to offer CCS charging alongside this adoption.
Tesla NACS: All Hail the Universal EV Charger
Earlier this year, it was reported that Volkswagen is already considering the move towards adopting the Tesla NACS charger, with the famed German car brand looking to apply it for its EVs. It would also follow its subsidiary company, Electrify America, after previously announcing its adoption of the NACS for its charging stations across the country.
It was said that the VW Group was already discussing this with Tesla for its North American operations.
Still, Volkswagen is not the first European automaker who announce their adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) which was debuted by Tesla for its EVs. Volvo, a renowned Swedish car company now owned by the Chinese company, Geely, previously confirmed its adoption of the NACS, being the first European car brand to do so.
From Japanese car companies, down to American brands, Tesla is now seeing massive adoptions from the clean energy industry for the use of its universal chargers and ports for EVs. As one of the few who held out initially, the Volkswagen Group now caved, confirming its application of the NACS, as well as its partnership with Tesla to gain access to Superchargers coming soon.
