It seems like a new robot feature was unlocked in Elon Musk's latest video showing how the Tesla Optimus 2.0 is folding the laundry in its new demonstration for the world to see. The clip shows how the Optimus bot can handle the menial and delicate process of folding a shirt, but it was only shown to work a single apparel, watched over by a Tesla employee in their plant.

When Musk first showcased Optimus, a.k.a. the Tesla Bot, he claimed that the machine would help humans do the chores or tasks that they detest, like folding laundry.

Elon Musk Boasts of Tesla Optimus Folding Laundry

A new video from Elon Musk shows the Tesla Optimus in its development plant, and the robot demonstrates its ability to do everyday tasks, more particularly, in folding the laundry. However, it is not exactly a collection of laundry it folded, but only a single shirt, with supervision by a Tesla employee.

The Optimus shows how it handles the shirt with delicacy, also portraying its method in handling it, using the basic shirt folding method.

Tesla's Optimus is seen taking it out of the basket and flexing its delicate fingers in handling the shirt, not something one would expect from a worker bot, a feature that Musk and the team emphasized.

What is the Tesla Optimus Capable Of?

As per Elon Musk's previous claims, the Tesla Optimus can handle the dangerous, repetitive, and daily tasks that a person usually fulfills. However, it is not yet at that point.

Musk said in his thread that Optimus cannot do these tasks autonomously in its current version, but it is something that the team is already working on. In the future, Optimus would be capable of doing its tasks autonomously, including folding the laundry, and doing so "in an arbitrary environment."

Tesla Optimus: The Autonomous Bot

Back in 2021, Tesla first revealed the "Tesla Bot" from the company's renowned annual showcase known as "AI Day," and here, the CEO and owner of the company stood side by side with the humanoid machine. At first, the robot looks surreal, especially as it is a minimalist-designed bot, and it was previously claimed that this will see its first rollout in 2022.

The main feature of the Tesla Bot, later named the Optimus, is to be an autonomous assistant at home or in the workplace, best known for being powered by artificial intelligence. It was also revealed by Musk that the Optimus will feature a unique personality, citing the renowned pop culture character from Star Wars, C3PO, to be the inspiration for its machine.

While the Optimus is not yet widely available for the public to use, and it has not yet gotten to a point where the promised features by Elon Musk are accessible, it shows great promise in the world of autonomy and robotics. Still, there is yet a product from Tesla's development, but it promises that tasks like folding the laundry and other repetitive tasks would be something Optimus can carry out for its owners.
