Apple has launched the company's annual Back to School promotion, which will allow customers to receive a free pair of Beats Solo 2 On-Ear headphones.

Students, parents and teachers can avail of the promotion by purchasing a new Mac. The computers that are included in the offer are the iMac, the MacBook, the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air and the Mac Pro.

Purchasing a Mac mini and any refurbished Mac will not qualify the customer to avail the promo. In addition, this year's Back to School promotion of Apple does not include the iPhone and iPad as part of any offer.

Customers that purchase [pdf] an eligible Mac computer will receive instant credit from Apple amounting to $199.95, which will be enough to cover for the whole cost of the Beats Solo 2 On-Ear headphones. The headphones can come in colors of either white, gloss black, blue, red, pink or gray.

In addition to the free Beats Solo 2 On-Ear headphones, Apple is providing customers with the choice to upgrade their free headphones to the Beats Solo 2 Wireless On-Ear headphones. The wireless counterpart comes in colors of gold, silver and space gray, but customers will need to pay an extra amount of $100 to avail it, which is the amount that remains after applying the $199.95 credit that the customer will receive from buying a new Mac.

Previous Back to School promotions of Apple offered Apple Store gift cards worth up to $100 with purchases of a new Mac, iPad or iPhone, such as in 2013 and 2014. However, no such offer has been released by Apple in the Back to School promotions this year.

Apple usually launches its Back to School promotion within the month of June or early in the month of July, with the second Tuesday of that month being the target launch date for the promotion in the past few years. The launch of this year's Back to School promotion is later than expected, and the company has seemed to have started moving away from giving away free gift cards for the Apple Store or iTunes.

The Back to School promotion of Apple will run from now until Sept. 18 for Apple's retail stores. For the company's online store, the promotion will begin on Aug. 6 and will last until the same ending date for retail stores.

The promotion is available for customers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The company has not yet announced the same promotion to be available in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France and other European countries, where the annual promotion has also been previously available.
