The top of the line Surface Book model just went up for preorder on the Microsoft Store, but premium specs warrant a premium price tag.

The Surface Book raised lots of interest so far and seems to be in high demand already, ahead of its retail launch on Oct. 26. The hybrid device comes with powerful specs and features, promising to offer the performance of a laptop with the portability of a tablet, combining the best of both worlds.

"The new 13.5-inch Surface Book is the ultimate laptop. The full punch of a high performance laptop with unprecedented versatility of a tablet. This is the future of laptop computing," tells Microsoft.

The company announced a top 1TB Core i7 variant of the Surface Book upon unveiling the device, but so far that option has not been available. Microsoft started taking preorders for the Surface Book earlier this month, but the 512GB version was the top option available. Even without the top 1TB model, the Surface Book seemed off to a strong start.

Just recently, we reported that all preorder stock for the Surface Book was sold out, with no model left available on the Microsoft Store. It was unclear at that point just when Microsoft would replenish preorder stock, but apparently the company was quite prompt.

All versions of the Surface Book are now again available for preorder on the Microsoft Store, and the top-of-the line variant with 1TB of storage finally joined the models on offer.

The Surface Book with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a dedicated custom NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU) and a 1TB SSD is now officially available for preorder on the Microsoft Store, sporting a hefty $3,199 price tag. Needless to mention, this ultimate Surface Book configuration is now the most expensive one.

The 512GB model priced at $2,699 now seems considerably more affordable by comparison, offering the same specs as the 1TB model aside from storage capacity.

When it comes to actual availability, most Surface Book models won't be ready to ship for another seven or eight weeks, as the "ultimate laptop" is apparently in high demand.
