Twitter and GoPro teamed up to bring Periscope integration to the Hero4 Silver and Black 4K series, allowing users to broadcast live footage through the lens of the iPhone or action camera on the social media platform.

The new feature came with Periscope version 1.3.3, but right now, it's only compatible with the iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus running on iOS 8.2 or later.

At any rate, this is big news for people with a strong dose of wanderlust who like to keep their friends, families and followers up to date with the current goings-on of their travels.

While setting things up might seem a bit complicated for some, it's actually quite simple.

How To Broadcast Live On Periscope Using GoPro

Step 1: Download and install the GoPro app and Periscope.

Step 2: Pair your GoPro with your iPhone.

Step 3: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and then locate and select your GoPro from the list.

Step 4: Double check whether your GoPro is on video mode or not.

Step 5: Open Periscope on your iPhone and tap on Start Broadcast.

Step 6: The app will highlight the GoPro button. All that's left to do is to think up of a title and broadcast live.

Note: The GoPro should not be set to record while broadcasting via Periscope. Leaving the app will also stop the broadcast.

Notable Features

To make things better for Periscope users, they will now be able to change which camera to capture footage with simply by double tapping, whether it's the shooter on the iPhone or the GoPro. Swiping right will toggle the camera source, going around the GoPro, the front-facing camera of the iPhone and the rear snapper of the smartphone.

What's more, users will have the luxury of tucking away their iPhones in their pockets when they're not in use without worrying about accidental taps, as the Periscope app has a new lock button, which can be unlocked again by swiping across the top.

Compatibility With Other Devices

Regarding other devices, the iPhone 5 and 5c are capable of broadcasting too, but they currently can't save the videos on the camera roll. Also, the Hero4 Session is not supported yet.

As for other operating systems, there's no word regarding the integration coming to Android yet despite having a Periscope version of its own.

To boil things down, broadcasting live footage on Periscope through the eye of a GoPro is nothing short of nifty. Considering the app's community, it's a safe bet to assume that there will be a slew of new and breathtaking broadcasts coming in the near future.

"GoPro enables people to capture and share their experiences in the most immersive way possible, and the integration with Periscope provides GoPro users with a great, real-time platform to share their content," Tony Bates, GoPro president, says.
