Sony has now officially announced a new global PlayStation promotion called "Days of Play." Part of the promotion includes the launch of a gold-colored PS4 Slim for $250 and DualShock 4 controllers for only $40 apiece.

PlayStation 4 Slim Gold Edition

The PS4 gold edition even comes with a matching gold controller and 1 TB of storage, so there'll be plenty of room for one's games.

The gold-colored PS4 isn't exactly a surprise, however — it's been leaked earlier this month by virtue of a Target listing. Sony said the gold edition PS4 will only be available for a limited time, although it didn't specify an end date.

Gold is a pretty interesting color choice for a console, especially since gaming machines traditionally come in black, white, or gray. If you're feeling a bit adventurous with colors, and if gold won't ruin your living room's decor, then you should definitely consider getting the gold PS4 Slim.

PlayStation 4 Slim Silver Edition

Sony will also release a silver edition PS4 but only for those living in Europe. The PS4 Slim gold variant will come with 500 GB of storage and will become available starting June 28, Sony confirmed via the European PlayStation blog. A silver option will also be available, although it only comes with 500 GB of storage, similar to the gold variant. Both editions will come with matching DualShock 4 controllers.

Why Sony won't release the silver PS4 Slim stateside is a bit unclear, although if it helps, Sony did tell Polygon that it's "focusing on the Gold PS4 in North America as part of our Days of Play promotion." Yeah, that clears it up, all right.

PlayStation Days Of Play Promotion

Days of Play will also include other awesome promotions including several retailers selling Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, and MLB The Show 17 for just $40 apiece, while "catalog titles" will also get discounted during the week. For audiophiles out there, the Sony Gold wireless stereo headset will be on sale for $80.

By June 9, Sony will announce even more deals as part of the promotion, including ones for digital games on the PlayStation Store. What's more, PlayStation Plus memberships will also get discounts on that day. Expect due coverage as Sony announces more information.

For those who haven't bought a PS4 yet but have been planning to for so long, this is probably the best time to finally buy one, and while you're at it, you should probably pick up Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, or MLB The Show 17 as well.

"This campaign is a thank you from us to the passionate PlayStation Community for your unwavering support — it's all of you that makes PlayStation the Best Place to Play, and led to the huge success of games like Horizon Zero Dawn," Sony said in a blog post.

Sony's Days of Play promotion begins June 9 and runs through June 17 in the United States and Canada.
