Electronic Arts unveiled Command & Conquer: Rivals, the unexpected revival of the classic Command & Conquer franchise that brings the real-time strategy series to mobile phones.

Fans, however, have expressed their disapproval of the new Command & Conquer game, as shown by the YouTube downvotes and Twitter reactions against Command & Conquer: Rivals.

'Command & Conquer: Rivals' Unveiled For iOS And Android

The Command & Conquer franchise returns, but probably not in the format and platform that long-time fans of the series were expecting.

Electronic Arts unveiled Command & Conquer: Rivals at the EA Play press conference before the start of E3 2018. The game was described as a strategy game for mobile devices, but unlike the in-depth mechanics of the real-time strategy titles for the PC, Command & Conquer: Rivals features elements similar to Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.

Command & Conquer: Rivals brings back the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod, but gameplay has been overhauled for the series' entry into mobile. Most of the units and the commanders for each side are familiar to fans, but the similarities with the classic C&C games mostly end there.

Interested players can now pre-register for Command & Conquer: Rivals at its official website to get special items at the game's launch. Android users may also sign up for an early access version of the game through the Google Play Store.

'Command & Conquer: Rivals' Backlash

Command & Conquer: Rivals is the first new C&C game since Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances, which was a free-to-play game on browsers. As such, it carries a lot of pressure, as Command & Conquer fans have been waiting a while for a new game in the series.

Unfortunately, Command & Conquer: Rivals is not off to a great start. The game's official reveal trailer has been downvoted about 29,000 times on YouTube at the time of writing, and the gameplay trailer is also not doing well with 11,000 downvotes.

Twitter has also not been nice to Command & Conquer: Rivals.

Meanwhile, eSports celebrity Sean Plott had this to say about Command & Conquer: Rivals.

There is no Command & Conquer: Rivals release date yet, but fans are already judging the game. Is it already too late for C&C fans to give Command & Conquer: Rivals a chance?
