According to Android Authority, there are a lot of core differences between Alexa and Google Assistant. This includes responsiveness, multiple commands, actions, integrated services, and more.

We will discuss each of them to see to what extent they are unique to each other.

Actions and Skills

First, let's talk about their kills. A skill is something that you can do with your virtual assistant. In Amazon's Alexa, you can access Spotify and other applications. You can also see several reports about weather and other topics, but you first need to ask the software for instructions.

Meanwhile, Google Assistant relies on actions. You integrate other services with it including YouTube. The same feature works on a device such as Echo so you can access YT in a browser.

Multiple Commands

A good AI assistant has a lot of tools that you can use. In Google Assistant, you can request a command so it can automatically perform a function that you want to do. Actually, you can simply "set the volume to 2" and it will later tweak the settings.

Amazon Alexa, on the other hand, makes use of the "Follow-Up" mode. This means that you can perform follow-up instructions without the need to repeat a particular word.

Calling

Calling is an important part of technology. You can now call your friends and relatives remotely through it. For instance, Alexa supports a video call feature which you can incorporate into video conferencing apps such as Zoom and Skype. If you don't have Show on your device, you can simply use the Alexa app.

Google Assistant, meanwhile, boasts Google Duplex. If you want to reserve a slot for a hotel or cinema, then this feature will be your go-to option for an automated phone system.

Availability

So far, we have discussed some differences that they have. When it comes to availability, Alexa and Google Assistant have some third-party partners that you can rely on.

There's an exemption to that. Not all devices are exclusive to Alexa. In fact, you can use Sonos One to use both digital assistants. Whether it's for iOS or Android, you can use this with ease.

Meanwhile, Google Assistant has a smaller set of Home devices. You can purchase Nest Hub and the Max model for improved sound and video quality. You can also choose Lenovo Smart Display for a change.

Which is the Better?

According to Tom's Guide, the battle between the two AI assistants is a close one. However, it appears that Amazon Alexa has a lot to offer compared to its counterpart.

Amazon's digital assistant excels in the field of communications and it has a wide array of features that you can do. Google Assistant specifically dominates Alexa in the area of voice recognition, directions, availability, extendability, and more.
