Update: Slack has already fixed the glitch, but it has not yet identified the cause behind that.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, The Verge reported that Slack was not functioning. Some posts failed to send and this also applies to threads and channels.

As proof that there was a Slack outage, Downdetector tracked that there were over 8,000 reports of Slack-related issues. At that time, over 100,000 users worldwide were aware of the problem.

Based on the data provided on its website, Downdetector said that 48% reported experiencing problems in Slack's app. 44% said that they could not send messages to their friends. Only 8% reported that they encountered technical issues on Slack's website.

The Slack downtime did not only hit its website and app. There were also difficulties in accessing the platform on X, Twitter's former brand.

During the incident, about 80% of Fortune 100 firms might have been affected by the downtime.

One user jokingly said that the Slack outage might have caused him to get fired by his boss. Another person posted that because of the sudden interruption, he couldn't work today.

In a Downdetector forum, another person commented that the desktop app is slowly loading frequently while the browser page is having SSO issues.

Slack Issued a Fix For the August Outage

As per Daily Mail, Slack has announced that it has resolved the glitch on its app and website. At 1:37 PM ET, it managed to restore to "full functionality."

"We've restored full functionality of Slack for all impacted users. Sorry for the trouble, we appreciate your patience today," the company wrote on its status page.

This is not the first time that Slack was hit by a major glitch. Back in July, the company experienced the same problem following several complaints from users who can't access the workplace chat app.

In October, the company also witnessed that a full-in work-stopping outage left an annoying remark to the online workers.

At that time, Slack urged Mac users to use the Command + Shift + R keyboard shortcut. Meanwhile, Linux and Windows users were instructed to simultaneously click Ctrl + Shift + R shortcut.

In September 2021, a strange report from Android mobile app users reached the company. According to the complaints, they were logged out right after logging into the app.

All the people received at that time was a notification bearing "invalid authentication."

If you're currently experiencing problems using the platform, you can seek help from the team by sending an email to feedback@slack.com.
