Meta has rolled out one of the biggest updates yet for its premium Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. The latest software upgrade introduces Neural Handwriting support, enhanced navigation features, display recording capabilities, and expanded developer access aimed at improving wearable computing experiences.
The update specifically targets the Ray-Ban Display model, featuring augmented reality overlays, which distinguishes it from Meta's more common camera-focused smart glasses lineup.
Neural Handwriting Launches Globally

After several months of limited beta testing, Neural Handwriting is now officially available worldwide for both iOS and Android users.
According to Digital Trends, the feature works in conjunction with the included Neural Band accessory, which utilizes advanced surface electromyography (sEMG) technology to detect subtle finger movements on almost any surface.
Users can write letters and commands using small gestures on a desk, palm, or leg without needing to touch a smartphone. The system allows users to search contacts, send messages, and reply to notifications entirely hands-free.
The feature currently supports messaging through Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and standard mobile notifications, creating a more seamless communication experience for wearable users.
Meta Improves Navigation and Recording Features
Meta's Update 125 also introduces a new display recording tool capable of capturing the augmented reality display view, outward camera footage, and surrounding audio simultaneously into a single video file.
According to GSMArena, navigation tools have also received major improvements. Users can now access expanded walking directions throughout the United States and major cities, including London, Paris, and Rome. The update additionally supports saved home and work locations alongside voice-guided navigation instructions.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp integration now includes group video calls and live call captions directly through the smart glasses.
Third-Party Apps Could Expand Smart Glasses' Potential
One of the most significant changes involves Meta officially opening the Ray-Ban Display platform to third-party developers.
Using the Device Access Toolkit SDK for iOS and Android, developers can now build dedicated smart-glasses applications or integrate wearable support into existing mobile apps.
