Capcom is now offering PlayStation 4 players a free trial of Monster Hunter: World, originally released in January 2018. The hit game, also released on Xbox One and PC, has since become Capcom's best-selling title to date, with more than 2 million units sold globally.

Those who missed out on the game are in luck because a free trial will be up on Sony's online store until May 20.

Monster Hunter: World Free Trial

The trial gives players access to two out of five locations in the game, including Wildspire Waste and the Ancient Forest. Not only can they slay monsters, players can also explore online and play with other players who already own a full copy of the game. Game save data from this trial may be carried over if the player decides to purchase the full version as well.

Capcom recently unveiled Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, a forthcoming DLC. As such, this is the perfect time for new players to finally give Monster Hunter: World a go if they haven't yet. The game has amassed its fair share of acclaim since its release. IGN, for instance, called it "bold and beautiful."

"[Monster Hunter: World] takes a dramatic leap into a look, feel, and size that feels truly new, simultaneously staying true to the series' ideals by maintaining the addictive loop of combat, intimidating monsters and meaningful upgrades that fans love."

Polygon, on the other hand, said it's a challenging game that players of all levels can jump into.

"It's all these elements — the unpredictability of monster hunts, the variety and challenge of weapons, the fact you can spend more time hunting and less time crafting — that will appeal to so many types of new players."

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Release Date

The trial version of Monster Hunter: World can be downloaded from Sony's digital store. Note that an internet connection is needed to play. Also, those who have any saved data from the full game aren't eligible to participate in this trial. No add-on content can be used too.

The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is releasing in September, as Sony announced during its most recent Nintendo Direct-style State of Play online presentation. Again, the free Monster Hunter: World trial is now available from Sony's store until May 20.
