Spotify has announced that it is rolling out a new update specifically for mobile platforms which adds useful features for better personalization, including folders, bulk editing for playlists, and more.
Spotify Adds New Updates for the Mobile App
Spotify has revealed in their latest release that they are rolling out a massive update for mobile that brings new mobile-specific features to the app. These features will be available for different account tiers and countries.
The platform said that they are refreshing the mobile app to deliver an easier and more reliable experience when using Spotify, applying the new features based on user comments and feedback over the past months to "keep listening smooth."
There is a total of four features added by Spotify. One of these features is actually iOS-specific as this feature was already available on the Android platform for several years.
Playlist Folders and Bulk Editing
According to Spotify, it has released massive tweaks to the Playlists of the platform, adding two new reorganizations features that users will find useful when putting order into their playlists.
First, Spotify has introduced Playlist Folders, and this is a feature that many desktop users are already familiar with as the computer app version of Spotify has had it available for many users for years.
This feature is now coming to mobile to deliver a way to organize user playlists however they like, whether based on mood, genre, activity, or more.
Next, there are bulk edits, which allow users to expand their playlist organization further by offering a way to select multiple tracks all at once to edit or reorganize them however users want. This feature is available on songs, audiobooks, or podcasts.
Both these features are rolling out to global users for all types of accounts.
Background Downloads for iOS
Users no longer need to keep the app open to complete downloads of their favorite songs, albums, audiobooks, or podcasts, as Background Downloads finally lands on iOS after many years.
This feature has been available on the Android version of the app for three years now, but it is only making its way to Apple's platform via this update. However, it should be noted that this feature is exclusive to Premium users.
Reshuffle Your Queue
Last but not least, Spotify has also added a feature for users that lets them reshuffle their queue anytime they want with a new dedicated button.
Spotify said that this will help refresh their listening experience even if they are listening to the same playlist, album, or other types of collection as it reorders the songs from their usual queue.
